American Honda Motor, headquartered in Torrance, Calif., has issued a recall for approximately 391,800 Honda lawnmowers and pressure washer engines.
Improperly manufactured camshafts in these engines have the potential to cause the starter rope to unexpectedly retract when pulled in an attempt to start, thereby posing a risk of injury.
The company reports having received nearly 2,200 incidents related to camshaft failures, which included seven reports of minor injuries.
This recall pertains to Honda HRN216 and HRX217K6 lawnmowers, as well as GCV170/200 G5B pressure washer engines.
The gas-fueled walk-behind lawnmowers feature a red and black design with the word “HONDA” printed on the clipping collection bag. The model and serial number can be found on a label situated on the upper rear of the mower deck.
Pressure washer engines are installed on various original equipment manufacturer frames, with the engine’s serial number engraved on a flat spot.
Both lawnmowers and pressure washer engines were manufactured in the United States.
The lawnmowers were made available for purchase at Honda Power Equipment dealers, Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, Northern Tool, and various farm, agricultural, and rental stores across the nation from May 2022 to June 2023, with prices ranging from $550 to $1,100.
The pressure washer engines were offered at Lowes, Home Depot, and other retail establishments throughout the country from June 2022 to August 2023, priced between $370 and $550.
For those affected, it is imperative to immediately cease using the recalled lawnmowers and pressure washers equipped with the affected engines. Instead, consumers should reach out to an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer to arrange for a complimentary inspection and repair.
